This post is a day late for Saturday March 11th.  I have my Starlink fired up and shooting out 165mbs of internet speed, so thanks to Elon I can update you tonight (Sunday).

Lets start by saying the 11th was the first bad weather day I have had.  And man, it was bad.  The faint of heart would not have gone, and that is just why I did because none of the riffraff would be out.  Sorry Riffraff among you.  I had many safe outs, or I would not have ever gone, so don’t worry.

I left before 6am and I could see stars, but by the time I turned the corner to head down the Calcasieu River, the visibility was down to 1/4 mile. I plugged along at 2.5 knots per hour, thinking that sounded slow because it was in knots.  My motor was so quiet at that speed that I could hear frogs, so I figured I could hear boats coming my way and get out of the way if needed.  I posted a picture of the Golden Nugget hotel sign, which I could hardly ready because of the fog as I went by.  About 2.5 hours later that fog started to lift and I entered the ICW going east.

A stiff wind started the blow and it increased Throughout the day.  At one point a barge reported 30mph winds and several barges had been pushed aground. There was a lot of struggling on their part, and even though I was a spot on the wall, they were nice.  They said they appreciated me communicating with them, and even gave me some special treatment when they had more on their  hands they could handle.  My boat did very well, but it was a handful none the less.

I was getting pretty tired so I spotted an place to anchor on the map and turned up the Mermentau River to get to that anchor.  Big mistake.  This river is very open to the south wind and there were white caps where I wanted to anchor.  There seemed to be no protection anywhere.  I just was too tired to anchor for the night in conditions like that so I looked for something else.  A bit further up the river was an RV park called Myers Landing.  It said it had tie ups for boats, so I thought I would give it a try.  An hour later and a lot of wind, I turned the last corner and a miracle..no wind and a beautiful little spot in the middle of nowhere.  It was simple, but the people were supper nice.  They had a store, so I bought some pickled quail eggs for me, and canned sausages for Gnarly.  She loved them, the quail eggs, not so much (me).  It was a wonderful stay after a pretty bad day.  However, so far I have really only had good days and great days…..this was a good day with a great ending.
