New Orleans to Mobile Map

New Orleans to Mobile AL

The importance of this trip will become more obvious as you explore the map and route.  Getting to New Orleans was the most critical and hopefully the most difficult part of this trip.  But getting to Mobile will be very challenging.  The other important aspect of this trip is the fact that Mobile will be the official starting point of the loop.

It is hard to express my experiences over the last few weeks.  The difficult route to New Orleans was intensely satisfying and the time I was able to spend with my mother was exceptional.  The healing this trip has provided along with the support from all of you has been heartwarming.  I can not adequately express my gratitude.

This next week should be fun.  I have a goal to get through to the east ICW before May 1 because a major bridge will be closed on May 1 blocking my access to the east coast for 21 days.  This is a very possible goal.  I also want to spend a day or two with Mittie’s parents in Clewiston FL, which is along the route.  I will keep you all updated.

I will look up the plane, I would guess you will see a fair number of different aircraft as you navigate the ICW? Your pictures are wonderful, we can all travel along vicariously with you!

  6. Another GREAT post. Love the pictures. Gnarly’s new friends seem very nice. If you have to be stuck you couldn’t have picked a better spot for the food.

  9. HI Steve, thanks for sending the info to access your web site again. Elvira wants to know if you have spotted any UFO’s or maybe met any ET aliens. She’s eager to meet some of those grays, ha, ha. We enjoy your travel posts

  10. I imagine you going back and forth between “beans out of the can” to the lovely oysters you pictured. Wondering if you are getting your fruits and veggies?🤣 Losing weight? Sorry to sound like your mother although Betty is wise enough not to ask you these questions!

And did Gnarly get a special treat too?

  11. Hi Steve,
I learned about your blog a couple of days ago from Alisa. I am back in the hospital and just spent about an hour catching up on your adventure.
I enjoyed it very much and it took my mind off of things. We love you, good luck and fair winds!

  12. Hey Steve, Jim, Perry here. As amazing as it might seem, you are at at Bluewater Bay Marina, my home marina before Marianne and I started our Caribbean adventure in 1998. Great little place, great restaurant and bar, and the best people. I always loved the location… A real cozy place. Question, can you rig an in-line water separator?

  13. I am in awe of your courage and determination! Your daily journal has me on the edge of my seat. What will happen next? You’ve already succeeded in every way. You’re still hanging in there, Gnarly has been by your side the whole time (wow) and you’re growing in so many different ways. Your comments tug on my heart as I think about Ted. I’m Praying for you both.🙏 Thank you for taking us all along!

  14. Good to hear about your journey, and that you are yourself in solving issues and enjoying the trip. Think of you every day. 🙏🙏🙏

    💕 Wally

  15. Steve, I love reading about your adventures and find myself questioning how in the world you can even do it, but being there when you pulled into Summerland Key I know you can. I’m just so so sorry Mittie isn’t with you as planned, she would have loved it as I see you are. Please take care and know we think of you so often. We wish you the best and love you! Will keep reading although sometimes I shudder, with fear for you. God bless you, and also know we wouldn’t be here living our dream in the keys, if Mittie hadn’t introduced me to the keys, like nobody could but her!, Give Gnarly a hug from me and tell her that we lost Baci in February due to Cushings disease. We miss him terribly. Take Care!! Mary

  16. How cool is that view for a baseball game?! Love reading about your adventures! Hope everything keeps going good for you!

  17. LOVE GETTING UP EACH MORNING EARLY AND FIRST THING TO READ YOU BLOG. TAKE CARE OLD FRIEND AND SMOOTH SALING FOR THE DAY AND MOST OF THEM TO COME.

  18. Happy Easter.

It sounds like you had a rough day! I hope your evening and tomorrow goes better.

So, has Gnarly gotten sick yet? I would be sick everyday.

Of course, there is a god! I am surprised you even doubted it!!!!

  19. Steve, was Gnarly giving you the “stink-eye” during this last adventure? I would have been. I’m beginning to think this trip is much more difficult than you told us it would be right before you left.

I did laugh at the thought of Mittie holding a cigar and a whiskey, watching over you and laughing. I know she is!

Be careful, hug Gnarly and keep on blogging. I think you have a book started!

  20. What an amazing journey you are on!!! We love to read about your daily adventures…and the amazing people and places along the way!

  21. I love your blog, Jerry reads it to me every day. He looks for mistakes but I never see any. Please be safe, as I know you will. Love, Mom

  22. Yay! You got the comment section fixed!
Your ears might have been burning tonight Steve, we celebrated Dave’s 69th birthday with Roger and Sally, Kevin and Kelly (not on our USVI trip) and of course, Dave and Cindy. They asked when you were going to start your trip so you should be seeing comments from them as they catch up with your posts.
Tomorrow is Easter but it sounds like you won’t be doing any traditional Easter activities; I’m sure Gnarly won’t mind. Weather here is finally warming up, spring seems to have arrived so we might be able to out away the parkas and boots.
BTW, one of Dan’s colleagues who works out of Raleigh has moved to a beach home 900 ft from the Intercoastal Highway. We told him about your trip and he said he would be happy to meet you if you are in his area. Any idea when you will be in that part of the country?
Anyway, glad to hear your mom is doing well in her new place and you are on the water again. Talk soon!

  23. Fallowing your trip blog, nice work. I am about 12 months behind you leaving from Waterford Marina.
